Lord and Lady,
Bless this book of witch's art,
and all I write herein;
keep it's magick close to my heart,
and far from the eyes of evil men.
May your light fill these pages,
with the blessings of your love;
with the wisdom of the ages,
and all the power thereof.
Book of Shadows be so much more,
than a teacher, guide, muse, or friend;
be a map that I may explore,
worlds without and worlds within.
And may any who would steal my craft,
for power, fame, or ire;
face the fury of your wrath,
and burn in hellish-fire!
So Mote It Be
Carolina Dean
Welcome to carolinadean.com. My name is Carolina Dean and this is my online Book of Shadows, which I've created to share my beliefs, practices, and experiences as a practitioner of Wicca with you, my readers.
I am Wiccan, and have been studying and practicing the Craft for approximately 17 years. I practice a tradition of the craft which is commonly called Kitchen Witchery, but I also include various aspects of Southern Folk Magick as part of my practices. For me, Wicca is first and foremost a religion; and while it is a religion that accepts the practice of magick as part of it's belief system, the practice of magick does not represent the whole of Wiccan Beliefs and practices.
I enjoy writing about metaphysical topics and have more than 10 journals which I have been writing in since about 2001, as well as my Book of Shadows (BOS). In addition to writing about metaphysical topics, I also attempt to keep aware of scientific studies which relate to metaphysics in some way. I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between ancient magick and modern science. To this end I collect articles from various fields of science which relate to metaphysical topics. I am also interested in issues of history, sexuality and psychology, specifically related to the LBGT community. In addition, I meditate on a daily basis, as well as observe religious devotions.
As someone who took his first steps down the path of self-discovery before the age of the internet I know how hard it can be to find information that is of a positive, helpful, nature as one embarks on their spiritual journey. Even now with the information superhighway running right into our living rooms, it can still be difficult to find good information on the subject of Wicca, Spells, Magick, Ritual, and Divination, etc....To that end, I hope to be a source of information for seekers who find their way here.
However, I do not claim to be an authority on the subject of Wicca, nor would I expect anyone to take anything that they read within these pages at face value. I encourage each one of you to think about what you read here, do your own research and find your own truth.

Feel free to leave me comments on my blog, or use the Contact Me option at the bottom left menu if you'd like to ask me questions. In addition, if you came by my site and liked what you saw, please sign my guest book and let me know what you thought.
Also, I'd like to offer a special thank you to a few people whom I have had the privilege to learn from either through direct interaction or through their own creative efforts, without whom this website would not be possible. Among those I count among my mentors and teachers include...
My mother Marion whose greatest gift to me was a love of reading.
Angel, who encouraged me to write and teach.
Julie, who supported me in my creative endeavors.
Brenda & Jo, my adopted sisters, for their faith in me.
cat yronwode for sharing the wisdom her years of study have brought
Scott Cunningham for blazing the path for all solitaires
Ray Buckland for his early work for Witches in America
Clifford Bias who wrote the first book on magick I ever found
and finally,
All those nameless, faceless witches and pagans who paved the way for what little rights we (witches and homosexuals) have today, many of whom lost their lives in the process.; and all those who are working to ensure we obtain equal protection under the law, and/or tolerance by society. Also, all those brave enough to live their life openly without fear of discrimination, violence, or shame.
Blessed Be
Carolina Dean
