What are Major Magicks?

Major Magicks are defined as those modes of magick which are much more complicated than minor magicks and often require a great deal of study, practice, and experimentation in order to accomplish satisfactory results.

Herb Magick

Herb Magick entails the use of herbs in the practice of magick. My information on this form of magick and the magick of Potions can be found under the heading An Herbal Primer.

Rune Magick

Rune Magick entails the use of the Runic glyphs in the practice of magick. Just like each glyph has a divinatory correspondence (see divination) they also have a magickal one.

In addition, each Rune corresponds to a letter of the alphabet, a specific sound, sometimes color, as well as Norse Deities. Runes can be used in magick in several ways, they include

  • Carving the glyphs of candles
  • Writing one's magick goal on paper in Runes
  • Sewing the glyph into clothing, or mojo bags
  • Painting the glyph on household wares, or even one's body
  • Using the Runes for divination
  • Creating a Bind Rune

Bind Runes

What is a Bind Rune?

The practice of creating a Bind Rune is unique to Runic system.  To Create a Bind Rune, determine your magickal goal and research which Runes correspond to that goal.

Next, you get to be creative and combine the Runes that you have chosen into one glyph in which each individual Rune can be found. The Bind Rune is then ritually activated in a magick ceremony.

Rite to Empower a Bind Rune

Take a candle whose color matches your goal and carve a keyword, in Runes, which best describes your goal. Next, impale the candle with nine pins at equidistant points while reaffirming your desire with each insertion. Sit facing, West and put the Candle on your left and place a bowl of nine ice cubes on your right

Draw your Bind Rune on a clean piece of paper in red ink, as red is thought to activate the power of Runes. When you are done, write the name of the person whom the Rune to for or it is to affect in a perfect circle around the Bind Rune.

Finally, using your forefingers and thumbs form a triangle and hold it over the Bind Rune. Close your eyes and visualize yourself in a circle of white light. When you are ready visualize a energies from the Fire and Ice coalescing in a ball within the triangle. Say,

"Ancient energies of frost and fire,
aid me now in my desire;
that my magick goal be found,
empower this Rune that I have bound!"

Repeat the incantation a total of three times, "seeing" the ball of energy grow larger and more power with each recitation. Finally, visualize the ball of energy entering the Bind Rune. Leave the Bind Rune between the Candle and Ice Cubes until the ice has completely melted and the candle is spent.

The Bind Rune may then be carried on your person, in a mojo bag, or kept in a safe place until your goal manifests. When this occurs, burn the Bind Rune to release it's energies back into the universe.

Sympathetic Magick

Picture When it comes to using Doll-Babies in magick, most people are familiar with the stereotypical image of the "Voodoo" doll stuck full of pins to cause suffering and grief for one's enemies. Historically, various types of dolls were used to gain love, empower individuals, bring about healing, and secure prosperity in addition to punishing one's enemies and staving off rivals.

The process of manipulating images to effect their physical counterparts is believe to have originated in paleolithic times. Although no dolls from this period in history have been recovered, it has been theorized that cave paintings depicting successful hunts were actually a form of magick, called sympathetic magick, which states that like attracts like. Sympathetic Magic forms the basis for many spells and rituals.

Sympathetic Magick works on the principle that ‘invisible bonds connect all things’. Sympathetic Magick can be divided into two categories, Homeopathic Magick and Contagious Magick. The Scottish anthropologist Sir James G. Frazer first described these types in his book The Golden Bough (1890).

  • Homeopathic Magick holds that “like attracts like.” A classic example of this type of magick is the melting of a waxen image of an enemy resulting in his or her death. Visualization is a form of sympathetic magick, instead of creating a physical image of your goal, you are create a mental one. Many taboos come from homeopathic magic. People avoid certain harmless things because they resemble various harmful things. Among the Inuit (Eskimos), for example, parents have traditionally warned their sons against playing a string game, such as cat's cradle, in which children loop string around their fingers. They feared that playing such games might cause the children's fingers to become tangled in the harpoon lines they will use as adults.
  • Contagious Magick holds that “things once in contact with one another continue to exert an influence on one another after they have been separated.” An example of Contagious Magick from a folk magick remedy to cure a wound would be to rub some medicine on the object which caused the wound in the first place. People who believe in contagious magic fear that an enemy can gain power over them by obtaining parts of their body. Therefore, they carefully dispose of their nails, hair, teeth, and even their body wastes.

The use of dolls in the practice of magick  can be found in cultures the world over. Some examples include,

  • Wax-Dolls (effigies) were known to have been used against Pharoah Ramses III of ancient Egypt in a plot by one of his many wives in an attempt to kill him so that her son would become the new Pharoah.
  • In 1320 Galeazzo Visconti, the Duke of Milan, was accused of attempting to murder Pope John VIII with a wax doll.
  • European royalty were known to make use of wax dolls to punish, torture, and kill rivals. Caroline of Brunswick (1768-1821), the Princess of Wales, was known to have made use of a wax doll of her husband, the future King George IV, which she jabbed with pins.
  • The Greeks made use of dolls (kolossi) made out of wax, clay, or even metal. The personal concerns of the person the doll was intended to represent were often incorporated into the body of the doll along with spells written on paper. Parts of the doll's body were tortured, deformed, and even removed, in an effort to bind and protect.
  • European witches often made Poppets, an older spelling of puppet, from sewing together two pieces of human shaped cloth and stuffing it with dried grass, herbs, feathers, etc....
  • In Colonial times, witches often made use of human shaped dolls formed from bread dough, dollies manufactured from corn husks (called corn-dollies), effigies made from wax, and poppets.
  • Among West Africans a type of doll called a bocchio, or fetish, can be found. A fetish is often carved from wood and will often have a hollow spot in which additional items such as herbs, roots, bones, etc.. can be placed. Unlike previously mentioned dolls which typically represent a human being, these fetishes represented Gods or Spirits. When slaves where brought to America, the use and possession of a fetish was forbidden. The bocchio then began being made in the form of Poppets which could be explained away as a child's toy.
  • Similar to bocchio, Hopi Indians make use of Kachina Dolls, which represent figures from Hopi Mythology. Although they are not used to represent people, they are petitioned for various needs such as protection and healing.
  • In the spiritual practice of espiritismo,  practitioners will often alter a store bought doll, bathe it in  herbs to cleanse the doll and perform rituals to entice their spirit guardian into the doll. From then on they will venerate that spirit the doll as the physical presence of the spirit in the physical world. It will often be petitioned for love, protection, health, success, etc.. and given offerings in return for its blessings.
  • In the practice of Hoodoo, modern practitioners often make use of store-bought Barbie © dolls, called doll-babies, which they often alter and consecrate to represent a specific individual. In addition, dolls in the form of poppets, or waxen effigies may also be used.

How Dolls are Used in Magick

Dolls are often sewn to represent the person as much as possible and items such as herbs, curios, seals, etc... which correspond to your intent may be incorporated into its body. The doll will often contain the personal concerns of the individual the doll is intended to represent. However, the doll may also be sewn from clothing once worn by the individual. Examples of personal concerns include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bodily Fluids
  • Hair/Nail Clippings
  • Used Clothing
  • Dirt lifted from the Person's Footprint
  • Handwriting Sample
  • A Photograph

Once the doll is constructed it is ritually named for the person that it is intended to represent. Naming rituals can take many forms including a Christian baptism, or exposing the doll to the four elements blessing the doll in the name of the individual.

The naming-ritual is believed to forge the magickal bond between the doll and the individual. Thereafter the doll is considered to be that individual. Spells and rites are performed with the doll to bring about your goal. That which you wish to occur to the individual is symbolically enacted upon the doll.

An Easy Protection Ritual That You Can Perform

First, take a clean white hankerchief and soak it in spring water to which you have added half a cup of kosher-salt. Let the hankerchief soak in this salted water overnight, during a Full Moon.

The following day, gently ring out the hankerchief (but don't completely dry it this way) and place it outside where it will dry in the clean air and sunshine. When the hankerchief is completely dry, take a poppet that represent yourself and wrap it in this handkerchief.

Once you have the doll wrapped in the handkerchief, place it somewhere where it shall remain safe. If you choose, you can enhance this ritual by the lighting of candles, incense, chanting, prayers, etc...but this is not required. Symbolically, you have surrounded yourself with a "white-light" of protection, which you can call upon at any time, simply by visualizing yourself being bathed in this white light to recharge yourself, reduce stress, or strengthen your sense of security.

Making and Using Poppets

Poppets

The most familiar form of Sympathetic Magick used in Wicca and Witchcraft is the use of Poppets, or dolls. The Poppet is made in sacred space, while mentally focusing on the individual that the poppet is intended to represent.

The Poppet is made from two pieces of cloth which are cut in the shape of the human form. This cloth can also be something that the individual has worn, or simply a colored piece of cloth that matches your goal. The pieces are sewn together, turned inside out, and stuffed with cotton, herbs, straw, gems, etc. If you have a link to the individual, add that to the poppet as well.

Finish by sewing up the opening used for stuffing. Next, personalize the doll giving it the features of the person it is intended to represent. When you have finished, wrap the doll in a clean cloth until the spell or ritual is to be performed.

Pattern for Making A Poppet

The Naming Ceremony

When the doll is made and there is no more work to be done in its creation, present it to the four directions, beginning in the North and say:

From the

(North, East, South, West)

the element of

(Earth, Air, Fire, Water)

now cleans

this poppet for positive means.

In the name of the Lord and Lady,

As I will so mote it be.

When done, turn to the North again and holding the doll in your hands, visualize the person’s face and say these words:

This poppet represents,

(N) in every sense;

and everything to it I do,

happens to (N) too!

Your Poppet is now ready for use.

How to Make a Quick & Easy No-Sew Doll

Below you will learn how to make a easy no-sew doll baby in under 15 minutes. This procedure will surely be recognized as an updated version of the New Orleans Style Voodoo Doll so I'll admit that before someone else points this out. To begin you will need:

Copy/Construction Paper
Scissors
Strip of Cloth
String

In addition to the above listed items, you will also need some personal concerns of the person your doll is to represent to be incorporated into the doll as well as any herbs that correspond to your goal. For example, if your doll was to be used in a love spell, you would want love herbs; money drawing herbs for a money doll; etc..

STEP ONE: Begin with your two sheets of paper. In the example above, I am using two sheets of standard 8.5 X 11 " copy paper. Set one sheet of paper aside for now and fold the other sheet of copy paper in half lengthwise and tear it in half.

STEP TWO: Place your personal concerns in the center of one of the halved pieces of paper and then ball up the piece of paper. This ball will serve as the 'head' of your doll. The other half of the paper will be rolled up in a tight tube to make the arms for your baby doll. If you wish you can incorporate your herbs, a written petition, etc.. into the charm as well.

STEP THREE: Place the balled up piece of paper in the center of the second whole sheet of copy paper.

STEP FOUR: Hold the ball in the center of the whole sheet of paper and fold around the piece of paper to form the body of your doll baby.

STEP FIVE: Due to the shape of the paper, the bottom portion (or feet) of your doll will be uneven. Using your scissors, even off this portion of your doll. Next, measure the tube you made for the doll's arms against the length of the doll's body and cut it (if necessary) so that they are equal length.

STEP SIX: Using the sharp point of your scissors, cut a small hole through the doll baby's body just under the head. Then insert the tube through the hole to form the arms of your doll baby. To make this step easier, I have learned to drill the hole through the doll from both sides and then slide a thick BIC pen through the hole to make it a bit larger and circular. You now have your basic doll.

STEP SEVEN: Now using a long strip of cloth roughly one inch by 15 inches long, wrap up the doll as pictured. If you wish to incorporate herbs into your doll they will be secured between the doll and this strip of cloth. In the beginning this may be difficult if you are using fine powders and such, however you will get the hang of it. There have been times that I put a small layer of glue on the side of the cloth that will touch the doll and sprinkled my herbs in their dried form on the glue.

I usually begin wrapping the cloth at the left arm, wrapping the cloth across the chest, right arm, and then down the body. Finally, secure the feet, waist, and wrists with string. For the purpose of this tutorial I used black tape.

STEP EIGHT: Finally, personalize your doll by giving it facial features and hair. I accomplish this by using a hole puncher to punch out small circles from colored construction paper and gluing them to the doll. If known to me I match the color of the doll's eyes and hair to the person it is intended to represent. I don't normally give the doll a nose. Others may wish to use the googly eyes that can be found at craft and dollar type stores.

The hair depends on the person's hairstyle and I normally try to get this as close to the actual person as well. For long hair, I use one big piece of paper which I glue to the doll and then cut and pinch the hair into shape. For shorter hair, such as in our example here, I tear several small pieces of paper and glue them to to doll. I begin at the front of the head forming the hair line. I then pinch the paper into the general shape of the hair and then work backwards to the nape of the neck.

Your doll is then completed. As you can see this is a very simple process which gets easier each time you make a doll.

Talisman Magick

Talisman magick is closely connected to with the magick of symbols and is a very personal form of magick. A Talisman is an object which carries the power or force that it intended to represent. Talismans are imbued with the particular energy that is represents with ritual inscription, consecration, and empowerment. Most Talismans are round as circles are said to hold energy, and they can be made of anything that can be drawn upon, including metal, wax, cardboard, or even paper.

On the front of the Talisman is a symbol of your need or goal, such as a Rune, Astrological Sign, Number, or a self-created Sigil. The reverse indicated who the Talisman is for, again, this is typically done with the language of symbols. You can write your magickal name in Runes, inscribe your Natal Chart, or arrange specific information about yourself in a manner pleasing to the eye.

Alternately, you can design a personal symbol which is intended to represent yourself. In addition, and this is my favored form of signing the Talisman, you can use the method of Crossing and Covering, in the manner of writing your petitions. After the name paper has been signed, you can write a keyword or phrase around the names in a perfect circle. For example:

Talismans are made in sacred space during the Full Moon on the day and in the hour of the planetary influence associated with your goal. As in our previous example, the Talisman should be made on a Thursday, during the Full Moon, in the hour of Jupiter. However, it is suggested that you design your Sigil and personal signage on a separate piece of paper beforehand.

At the appointed hour, gather your materials and create sacred space. Inscribe your sigil on the front of the Talisman while focusing on your goal, visualizing it as if it has already come to pass. Next, inscribe your signage on its reverse, again visualizing your goal.

When you are done, ‘smoke’ the Talisman in incense as you recite a spell calling on the force with which you intend to charge the Talisman. As in the example above you may say something like:

Jupiter!

On this your day & in your hour,

I humbly call upon your power;

that it may my talisman bless,

& crown my works with success!”

There have been many methods devised on how to create your own sigils in magick, which will be briefly reviewed here:

  1. Write out a statement of your intent, being specific as possible but also brief. For example: “I will be a successful doctor.” Now look at the letters of the alphabet, and remove all the letters which repeat themselves. Take the remaining letters and rearrange them, moving pieces of one letter into another, finding one letter in the shape of another, etc… Play with them until they don’t resemble anything remotely associated with your intent.

  1. Using those Runes which correspond to your goal, create a Bind Rune and use it as a symbol in the making of your Talisman.

  1. A third choice, involves using symbols which have been created and used by others, such as The Seals of Solomon.

  1. Finally, render each letter in a keyword to its numerical equilvalent and sigilize it on a magick square, or Kamea, which corresponds to your goal. The Kameas and their correspondences are as follows.

Kameas, or magick squares, represent planetary energies in a mathematical format. To make a sigil, or magickal symbol, using a Kamea you must first determine a keyword that best describes your goal. For example, if your intent was to be a successful physician, you might choose the word ‘doctor’ to represent yourself as being successful in your chosen vocation. Using the Western system of Numerology, render the keyword to its numeric equivalent:

Now add up all the numbers that correspond to the letters making up the word,

4 +6+ 3+ 2+ 6 +9= 30= 3

Now choose a square which corresponds to your goal. As in the example above, Jupiter rules success in one’s chosen profession. Draw a circle around the first number in the given sequence signifying the start of the sigil, then draw a straight line to the next number in the sequence drawing a parallel line across the last one signifying the end of the sigil. In the case of a number appearing twice in a sequence, this is symbolized by two triangles joined at the upper-most point. Finally, draw a square around the number which corresponds to the sum of the digits.

This will result in a sigil of the keyword. This sigil can then be used to create a talisman, or it can be drawn on a candle to represent one’s goal, written on a piece of paper and tucked into your pocket, or a mojo bag.

Another example of using this method entails creating sigils of the names of individuals. For example, to create a sigil for the purpose of attracting a specific person, use the Kamea of Venus to create a sigil of their name.

Mojo Magick

What is a Mojo Bag?

A mojo is the staple talisman in the Hoodoo Tradition, but it appears in other magickal traditions as well.  It is characterized as a flannel bag, usually red, containing one or more magickal items.  Although most “Southern Style” mojos are made of red flannel, some magickal practitioners favor the color symbolism employed in candle magick and will match the color of the mojo bag to their goal

How Mojo Bags are Made

Traditionally, mojo bags are not sewn from two squares, although they can be.  Instead they are made from one rectangular piece of flannel which is roughly 6 ½ X 5 ½ inches, that is folded in half and sewn to about 3 X 5 inches. The extra material goes into seam allowances and the tube created for the drawstring.

What Goes Inside a Mojo Bag

What goes into a mojo bag is determined by your goal, and what your find effective or traditional to use to achieve that goal.  Generally, there are at least three items in a simple mojo and many people try to ensure that the total ingredients comes to an odd number---3,5,7,9,11,13 and never more than 13.  Sometimes mixed herbs are counted as one item.

How to Prepare & Fix a Mojo Bag

Each practitioner has his or her own methods of preparing and fixing mojo bags, however there are certain elements in the process that are considered universal. The ritual for preparing and fixing a mojo bag is usually performed in either a work-space or an altar and will often be accompanied by the burning of candles and incense.

To successfully make and empower a mojo bag, mark a candle with your goal and impale it with nine pins, reasserting your desire with the insertion of each pin. Remember, the ninth pin goes through the wick.  Light some incense and the light your candle.  The mojo bag is filled with each ingredient (herbs, curio, seal, petition, personal concerns, etc...) accompanied by positive prayers and instructions for each ingredient.  For example, if you are creating a mojo to draw a male lover to you and you are using dried Lavender, you may say something like: "Lavender which draws men, draw a compatible man to me. In Jesus' name. Amen."

When all the ingredients have been placed in the bag, it is tied shut in a specific way according to tradition. The mojo bag is then said to be smoked, or held over burning incense, accompanied by either an extemporaneous prayer or a bible verse, typically the 23rd Psalm.  Finally, the mojo bag is fed, or anointed with oil and left in the light of the blessed candle until it burns out.

How to Tie Your Mojo Bag

Rather than two separate pieces of string pulled from opposite ends, the drawstring in a mojo bag is one single piece of string that goes through the mojo bag.  The two ends usually come knotted together near the end to prevent them from slipping back inside the tube part of the bag. Before you tie your bag, you must unknot the two ends or cut the string just below the knot.

Pull the drawstring tight closing the mojo bag and  then tie the loose drawstrings into a knot holding the bag shut. The two ends are then knotted together again as before, wrapped around the bag once and tucked underneath itself.

Care and Feeding Your Mojo Bag

Part of activating or waking up, a mojo bag includes smoking and feeding the bag accompanied by the recitation of prayers/petitions. Like conditions oils, the incense you use typically corresponds to your goal. Mojo bags are smoked because the act of smoking the mojo bag is believed to awaken the spirit of the bag and brings it to life.

In some instances, spiritual workers follow God's example in Genesis 2:7 and literally breathe life into their mojo bag by blowing their own breathe into the bag, and then tying it shut. I've also heard some workers instruct others to light a match and drop it into the bag, symbolizing the spark of life, however this is not my practice.

Mojo bags are believed to be the physical manifestation of a spiritual entity and therefore alive. All living beings require sustenance to live and mojo bags are no different. The act of feeding your mojo keeps it alive and strong to work for you and help bring about your goal. To feed your mojo bag, simply place a drop of condition oil, or whiskey on the bag.

Once your mojo is fixed, it should be carried on you for the first week and you should sleep with it near you at night. It should also be fed each day for a total of seven days and at the same time it was originally fixed, if possible. After the first week, you may continue to carry it on you during the day, or you may put it away in a secret place.

After the first week, feed the mojo once a week for four weeks on the same day of the week that it was made. After that month, it should then be fed once a month when the moon is new.

Once properly made and empowered, you should carry your mojo on you below the waist and sleep with it under your pillow. Once a week, dress the mojo with oil again. Never let another person touch your mojo or it will be rendered useless. Some people feel that a mojo’s power generally last for a year, and should be buried after that time while others feel that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  If your mojo is still working for you don’t’ dispose of it, but if the cloth wears out sew it all up into a new cloth.

If your mojo stops working for you, empty its contents on a tabletop. Inspect any hard items such as dried roots, coins, shells, lodestones, etc for damage. Set the undamaged hard items aside and place the damaged item back in the mojo bag with the soft items.  If a seal or petition is still working set it aside as well, but if it is work, illegible, or needs

Naming Your Mojo Bag

A properly prepared and fixed mojo bag is believed to be a living being, your spiritual ally, and as such it should have a name just like all other living beings. You can either name your mojo yourself, or it may communicate its name to you during the processes of making the mojo bag. Once you know the name of your mojo bag, use that name when addressing the bag communicating your needs or asking for its assistance.

Maintaining Your Mojo Bag

You should never allow another person to see or touch your mojo bag as it is believed that it will kill the power of the bag. If this occurs, you have two choices. They are:

  1. Bury the entire bag with honor.
  2. Open the mojo bag and set any undamaged hard items aside such as roots, lodestones, coins, etc... Discard any items that are damaged or worn. Wash the re-usable items with Whiskey or Hoyt's Cologne and use them to make a new mojo bag.

Over time, a mojo bag can become worn and may need to become refreshed. This is traditionally done around the Fall Equinox and entails taking the mojo bag apart, saving hard curios, replacing leafy/dried herbs. The contents are then reassembled into a new mojo bag accompanied by prayer and followed by smoking and feeding the mojo

On a small piece of paper, write the name of the person from whom you want to protect yourself, cross and cover the name with your name, written three times, and fold the name paper around a pinch of Devil’s Dung, folding away from you each time until it is a small packet. Dress the packet with Run Devil Run Oil and place it in the bag. This is among the strongest reversing hands that can be made, but you may have to find and dig your own Devil’s Bit, or grow it in your own garden, for the whole root is not always available in commerce.

Tarot Magick

Tarot  spreads or card readings make excellent foundations for tarot spells. If you see something in a reading that you feel needs to be changed, you can leave the card spread out and put positive cards over the negative card(s), and visualize the positive aspect occuring.  Alternately, you can take several Tarot cards that you have specifically chosen for their meanings and lay them down in the form of a favored Tarot spread to shape your new reality.  Tarot magick can be used in combination with herbs, gems, poppets, amulets, and talismans. In addition, Tarot Cards themselves can be used as talismans or poppets.

Generic Tarot Spell

Begin your spell with a three card spread.  The first card represents whom the spell is for, or who it is to affect.  The second card represents your goal.  The third card is placed between the first and the second ones, and it represents how your goal will manifest. Then visualize it occuring with each card and leave the cards out until your goal manifests.

Healing with Tarot Cards

Intuitively choose a Tarot Cards and place it over the body where healing is needed and recite a spell specific to your the condition.  Alternately, you can shuffle the deck and let fortune decide the 'correct' energy that is needed to afford the individual a healing. For example, you can use The Tower to break up blockages, or The Chariot can be used to speed up the healing process.  This spell can be enhanced by the burning of candles, and the use of scents, colors, music, etc...

For preventative/exploratory purposes I have often had the individual lie comfortably on the floor, in a room where I have candles and incense burning (at a safe distance) and calming music playing in the background. I then shuffle the cards and lay them out on the person's body at the chakra points and interpret them accordingly.

Workbook of Shadows

EXERCISES

1.      In your own words, define major magicks in your journal. Below this make a list of each of the major magicks.

2.      Write a brief definition, in your own words, beside each of the major magicks.

3.      Please refer to the Chapter titled An Herbal Primer on workbook exercises associated with herb magick.

4.      Research and prepare one each of the types of potions mentioned in this chapter (infusion, elixir, oil, ointment, and tincture) and answer the following questions regarding each of the potions. Remember to use safe practices techniques.

·        What class of potion is this?

·        What is the intended purpose of this potion?

·        What is the recipe for this potion? Please include the name by which you know the plant or herb as well as its Latin name.

·        How is this potion intended to be used? Is it edible or non-edible?

·        What sources did you use to derive this recipe?

5.      Think of one goal that you would like to achieve and write it in your journal. Determine at least three runes that correspond to your goal and draw them below your written goal. Beside each rune you have drawn, write its magickal correspondences.

6.      Using at least three of the runes you have determined to resonate with your goal, design a bind rune and draw this in your journal.

7.      Sew a poppet of yourself and ritually name it. Soak a white handkerchief in salted water and allow it to dry naturally. When it is dry, wrap your poppet in this handkerchief and keep it in a safe place.

8.      Think of a goal that you would like to achieve. Using the Magic Squares described in this chapter, design and create a talisman for that goal. Show your work at each step in your journal.

9.      Sew a mojo bag out of flannel or chamois.

10.  Choose one goal that you would like to achieve and write this in your journal. Research the herbs, minerals, seals, etc… that correspond to your goal and using the guidelines as given in this chapter devise a recipe for a mojo bag. Record your recipe in your journal.

11.  Gather all the things necessary and prepare your mojo bag.

12.  Think of a goal that you would like to achieve and write this in your journal. Using the information given in this chapter and in the chapter on divination, choose three tarot cards for the three-card tarot spell. Photo copy or print your chosen cards offline and glue these in your journal in the order given in the spell. Above each card, write what the three positions means. Remember, the first card represents whom the spell is for, or who it is to affect.  The second card represents your goal.  The third card is placed between the first and the second ones, and it represents how your goal will manifest. Finally, below each card write what that card means and explain why you chose that card for that position.
